David Ferrer will begin today his tournament

 "I am very happy to be back in Valencia. I cannot wait to play my first match. It has been a positive week although I am a bit sad (because of the lost title in Sweden) but I have to move on". David also asserted that "it will be hard to play my first match against Monfils, he is a great player. I am the clear favorite to win but it will not be that easy, it is a difficult tournament".

Juan Carlos Q&A about Valencia open500 2013 edition

Q. What goals have you set yourself since taking over as director of the Valencia Open 500 ATP World Tour?

 

A. The main goal is to carry on providing one of the best indoor tennis tournaments in the world. From now on, the challenge is to keep improving and in this respect everything's going really well because the ATP is very happy with us, as are we with them; many of the top players in the world are now coming to Valencia and that is reflected in the audience, so we've got everything going for us to keep on growing. 

 

Q. This tournament is the fifth one since the Tennis Open of the Valencian Community was granted the category of Open 500. How would you rate the past five years?

 

A. We're extremely pleased with the way things have gone because we've grown every year. The first season that we were given the Open 500 category helped us very much to gain experience for the coming years, because we realized it marked a turning point in upping the ante of the tournament in terms of quality, not just with regard to the level of the players who come to compete but also the set-up of the event and the surrounding area. 

 

Q. How do you see the future of the Valencia Open 500 ATP World Tour developing?

 

A. I visualize a secure future. A tournament is like a tennis player, if you're going to succeed, you need to work very hard. In Valencia we've been working hard for years to consolidate a tournament that is making itself felt more and more in the tennis world. I'm confident that we're going to be enjoying top tennis for many years to come at our tournament.

Juan Carlos honored in Barcelona !

Juan Carlos Ferrero received a trophy during the Barcelona open to celebrate his brilliant career(note Juan Carlos retired last year during the Valencia open 500)

Juan Carlos Ferrero : "I want to thank you for all these years, here I have always been treated in a phenomenal way. I felt at home and play here always has been special. Win the Godo to any Spanish tennis player is rather impressive. This tournament is very special. I have lived unforgettable moments and receive this tribute with love" addressed Ferrero to the audience of the Center Court, the same one where he won in 2001 the title after beating Carlos Moyà one of the best finals in the history of the tournament, when they were still fighting to the best of five sets: 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 after 4h.09'.

"the final was very hard from beginning to end. I was quite in tow because Moya dominated with his right, but I couldn't take the match. It was a hard Godo from the first round,"recalled Juan Carlos . Without going any further, he had to raise a 'match-ball' in his debut against Voinea. Costa, Mantilla and Kratochvil were his other victims before crossing with Moya in the final.

"My three finals were against players that have been number 1 in the world,"added the player from Ontinyent .

Juan Carlos vs Fernando González in Chile this Saturday !!!

After months of planning, the triple Olympic gold medalist will have the party he always wanted. Supported by the municipality of Puente Alto, in Chile, led by the mayor, Germán Codina, 'Feña' González will play , on Saturday April 13th , against the Spanish and former world number one , winner of 16 ATP titles , Juan Carlos Ferrero . The last meeting between the two sportsmen took part in Wimbledon, in 2009, with a victory of the Spanish player .

Fernando González : "I am happy to be able to retire in front of my people, all those who followed my career and Chileans who always supported me making me feel at home while I was travelling all over the world , even playing in the more distant cities ."

Juan Carlos is the new director of the Valencia open 500 !

Juan Carlos Ferrero will debut this year as director of the Valencia Open 500 . The ex world number one will live for the first time the tournament from the barrier and hopes to have a beautiful lineup this year : 
"we would like to have Nadal in the tournament in Valencia. Last year we spoke to him and there were many possibilities that he would come. This year? We will fight for it. From here to Roland Garros many things can happen". 

Also this season Juan Carlos is one of Nicolás Almagro trainer : 
"He is playing at a high level. I wanted to help him with his mental level, which I think is what lacks him a bit to be a better player . "Hopefully we can help him in that little missing to have better results"

Juan Carlos is also dreaming of being the future captain of the Spanish Davis Cup :
"It's something that I'd like to do someday. I don't know if it will be coming the other or next year" 
"It is compatible with being director of the Valencia tournament because the director will work during the year and the time that you need to be physically here is only for the week of the tournament" .

Juan Carlos at a charity exhibition match in Aviles , Spain

last week ,  Juan Carlos Ferrero participated in a charity exhibition match organised by the Asturian Association of Cystic Fibrosis in Avilés by José Luis Franco , Roberto Menéndez and Marcos Álvarez, and insisted his desire to be the next captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team.

what about the matches ? Ferrero won a tie break to Marcos Álvarez, a set to José Luis Franco (6-1) and another one to Robert Menendez (7-6)

-In Asturias, this time for a noble cause. 

JCF : It is always nice to return to this land, in which I always have been welcomed so well. The reason for today is different, José Luis asked me three years ago but until my retirement it has not been possible to do it before for some or other reasons. Better late than never and I'm delighted to help you in your initiative. 

-People like José Luis Franco are an example of overcoming. 

JCF : Clearly, he has a lot of merit. I have spoke with him, what happened, operation, six months entered in Valencia. It is a joy to see him he's okay, making sport. I hope that everything goes well and i'm proud to be able to help you and him for the Association. 

-How does this initiative was born ? 

JCF : José Luis is a big fan of mine since 2000 and dreamed to play a game with me. The timing and other circumstances had prevented it so far. 

-With a couple of months since your retirement , now it's time of pending commitments. 

JCF : So, I'm going from one place to another trying to comply with acts which were postponed because of my professional status. Anyway today is very nice and makes me happy. 

-what about your retirement ? 

JCF : it's quite recent and it has been so many years that can cost, but i live it quite well though it is a quite different life. Anyway I'm still linked to professional tennis and this month I will be during three weeks Nico Almagro's coach. 

-Do you initiate a new stage of your life ? 

JCF : We are in this, but Nico's coach remains Samuel López. I'm going to do this to help them traveling to six or seven tournaments because Samuel has a family and throughout the year can not be passed out. It's to give him a break and I believe that I can help Nico in some aspects of his game. 

-Are we facing a future captain of the Davis Cup? 

JCF : I'd like to be the next one . Alex will end this role this year and we'll see what will happen next year . 

-Last night began the competition with Spain vs Canada . How a champion of the Davis sees it? 

JCF : It is a quite complicated start , because they play outside and on a track that the Canadian players are dominating . Spain has it difficult but we will see what happens. 

-Great responsibility for young people, for Granollers who is number one for the first time? 

JCF : Marcel has become the leader of the team in this round and can get it very well to give the maximum of his tennis. he's young but has enough battles and has played the Davis doubles. Now he is in the individual and he can get it right, to the level he showed in the tournament in Valencia on indoor track 

-Rafa Nadal is in the final ramp of his return, Djokovic continues unchecked. Can Nadal get back to number one ? 

JCF : Novak is in the line of last year and in principle is the favorite of the season, but on clay Rafa will be there , waiting to see how he comes back. he didn't compete during eight months and a return to the highest level after so much time injured is difficult even for a crack like him
